Richard J. Severson

The biological drive to keep on living for as long as possible, even in the face of dismal odds, is a presentiment of the willful grit that epitomizes every human conviction.  No matter the species, the life of every life entails a propensity for hope (and self-delusion).  The mind’s moth-like attraction to the flame of spiritual transcendence is foreshadowed in the earthbound fight for survival.  Believing (in God, for instance) is a human construct built upon a natural faith in life itself.

For me, theology is rooted in biology.
